Asian Games medallist Vithya Ramraj delivered a dominant performance in the women's 400m hurdles, breaking the meet record and comfortably securing her place at the upcoming Asian Athletics Championships.
Competing at the National Federation Senior Athletics Championships at Maharaja's College Stadium, the 26-year-old from Tamil Nadu clocked an impressive 56.04 seconds to clinch the gold medal.

Her time surpassed the previous meet record of 57.21 seconds, set by Saritaben Gayakwad in 2019 at Patiala, and also met the qualifying standard of 57.80 seconds for the continental event.
This win followed Vithya's silver medal finish in the 400m flat event held a day earlier, underlining her consistency and form.
Vithya has been chasing the national record in the 400m hurdles for a long time now. She equalled PT Usha's national record at the 2022 Asian Games, finishing first in the heats with a time of 55.42 seconds. The wait continues hopefully, Vithya will break the national record this season.
In contrast, the men's 400m hurdles final saw a heartbreak for Karnataka's Yashas Palaksha, who fell just short of qualification despite winning the event. He posted a time of 49.32 seconds, narrowly missing the Asian standard of 49.19. Yashas began his 2025 season at the Indian Open Athletics Meet in Nadiad after a long injury layoff, winning the event with a time of 49.63s.
Yashas made an outstanding return after overcoming an injury, securing consecutive gold medals in a remarkable display of resilience. Although he fell short of qualifying for the Asian Athletics Championships, his recovery and subsequent performance are still highly praiseworthy.
In the women's triple jump final, Niharika Vashisth won the gold medal with a personal best jump of 13.49m. This was her second consecutive gold medal in 2025, the first having come at the National Games in Uttarakhand, where she topped the podium with a best jump of 13.37m.
24th April is the final day of the Federation Cup. There will be several exciting finals. In the men's 200m, national record holder Amlan Borgohain and rising star Animesh Kujur will go head-to-head. In the women's long jump final, it will be Ancy Sojan vs. Shaili Singh.
In the women's high jump final, rising star Pooja Singh will look to dominate once again, while in the men's shot put final, Asian Games medalist Tajinderpal Singh Toor will aim to break the 20m mark - a feat he has achieved only once since last season.
