Sikandar Shaikh Wins Rustam-E-Hind Title And Aims For Asian Games 2026 Representation

Sikandar Shaikh, supported by PBG Group, has been crowned Rustam-E-Hind and is now focused on securing a place in India's Asian Games 2026 wrestling team. His victory marks a significant achievement for Maharashtra wrestling.

Sikandar Shaikh, a 24-year-old wrestler from Solapur, Maharashtra, has achieved a significant milestone by winning the Rustam-E-Hind title. This victory marks him as only the fourth wrestler from Maharashtra to earn this honour.

Sikandar's triumph came after defeating top mud wrestlers like Roshan Kiralgad and Bagga Kolhi at the 2024 Rustam-E-Hind competition in Jandla village, Punjab.

His victory was celebrated with a special ceremony in Pune, where Punit Balan, Chairman of the PBG Group, congratulated him. Sikandar received a cash prize and a tractor as part of his rewards.

The PBG Group has been supporting Sikandar since his Maharashtra Kesari win last year and continues to provide financial assistance for his training and competitions.

Punit Balan expressed pride in Sikandar's achievement, stating, "It’s a very proud moment for us that a wrestler from Maharashtra has won the Rustam-E-Hind crown. The PBG group has been committed to supporting players who have a dream to excel in their sports disciplines at the national and international stage and Sikandar’s performance in Punjab only gives us additional motivation to continue our work."

The PBG Group's support is crucial for Sikandar as he aims to represent India at the 2026 Asian Games in mat wrestling. This backing ensures he can focus on training without financial worries. The group has pledged continued support for the next three years.

Sikandar is now setting his sights on national competitions and mat wrestling events. He aims to secure a spot on India's team for the 2026 Asian Games. Speaking about his goals, he said, "The support from the PBG group has ensured that I do not have to worry about financial problems and focus on my training. My aim now is to also focus on national competitions and mat wrestling events with a target of making it to the Indian team for the 2026 Asian Games."

Historically, wrestlers from North India have dominated the Rustam-E-Hind competition. Before Sikandar, only Harishchandra Birajdar, Amol Buchade, and Asab Ahmad from Maharashtra had won this title. His victory signifies a shift in this trend and highlights his potential on an international level.

Sikandar's journey reflects dedication and ambition supported by strategic backing from organisations like PBG Group. His achievements inspire many aspiring athletes aiming for success both nationally and internationally.
