Rohan Jaitley defeats Kirti Azad by a wide margin as he gets re-elected as DDCA President for third term

Rohan Jaitley has been re-elected as the President of the Delhi and Districts Cricket Association (DDCA), defeating Kirti Azad, a former India cricketer and Lok Sabha MP.

Rohan, aged 35 and son of the late Arun Jaitley, secured 1,577 votes against Azad's 777. This victory marks his third consecutive term in the position, which lasts for three years.

Rohan Jaitley Re-elected as DDCA President

In 2020, Rohan Jaitley was elected unopposed after Rajat Sharma resigned mid-term. The following year, he defeated advocate Vikas Singh to secure a full three-year term. His leadership is supported by CK Khanna, a former BCCI acting president who wields significant influence in Delhi cricket circles.

Election Results and Key Figures

The election saw 2,413 votes cast from a total of 3,748 members, with 1,207 votes needed to win. Shikha Kumar, daughter of CK Khanna, won the vice-president position with 1,246 votes. She defeated Rakesh Kumar Bansal and Sudhir Kumar Agarwal, who received 536 and 498 votes respectively.

Ashok Sharma was elected as secretary with 893 votes. Harish Singla secured the treasurer's role with 1,328 votes, while Amit Grover became joint secretary with 1,189 votes. All these office-bearers will serve for three years.

Directors and Allegations

The directors' posts are contested annually. This year, Anand Verma (985), Manjit Singh (1,050), Navdeep M (1,034), Shyam Sharma (1,165), Tushar Saigal (926), Vikas Katyal (1,054), and Vikram Kohli (939) were elected as directors.

Kirti Azad had raised concerns about alleged corruption within the DDCA during the election campaign. He claimed that Rs 17.5 crore was spent on floodlights at DDCA when a larger stadium in Ahmedabad did it for Rs 7.5 crore. He also accused the administration of underutilising funds received from the BCCI.

Azad is a member of the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress party and represents the Bardhaman-Durgapur constituency. Despite his allegations and campaign efforts, he was unable to unseat Rohan Jaitley in this election.
