Sports Bulletin on March 14: From Delhi Capitals naming Captain for IPL 2025 to Lionel Messi scoring on Inter Miami Return

On the auspicious day of Holi, the sports world has already witnessed a fresh developments. Delhi Capitals have announced their leader for IPL 2025, while BCCI has sent a new regulation to all the franchises.

The IPL teams are also in festive mood as they celebrate Holi. In football, Manchester United and Inter Miami advanced to the quarterfinals of their respective competitions. Check out the unmissable stories of March 14.

1. Axar Patel appointed as Delhi Capitals captain

Delhi Capitals have named Axar Patel as captain for the IPL 2025 season on Friday. The Indian all-rounder is with the franchise for a long time all will now become Rishabh Pant's successor. The Capitals appointed Axar after KL Rahul refused the captaincy role at the team. Patel was one of DC's three retained players.

2. Sanju Samson still at NCA, likely to join RR camp by Monday

Sanju Samson is currently nursing his finger injury at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. The Indian wicketkeeper-batter is yet to join the Rajasthan Royals camp ahead of IPL 2025 but is set to arrive by Monday. Samson is leading the Royals since 2021 and under his leadership, they have reached the final in 2022 and finished third last season.

3. BCCI bans Harry Brook for Two Years in IPL

England batter Harry Brook has been banned for two years in the IPL, as per reports. Brook pulled out of IPL citing personal reasons yet again, and as per BCCI's norms, the player is set to be banned for the next two years from the tournament. Brook was bought by Delhi Capitals in IPL 2025.

4. IPL teams can rope in short-term replacements

BCCI has informed franchises that they can rope in short term replacements in the IPL 2025 season. As per the new rules, if a team is struggling at a particular department (eg: all wicketkeepers are injured), they can apply for a player who was originally not registered by them for a few matches. BCCI would grant the request and the player can even be relieved off his duties after the fulfilment of his role.

5. India Masters advance to IML 2025 final beating Australia

Yuvraj Singh showcased his devastating best as India Masters have advanced to the Final of the inaugural International Masters League beating Australia. Yuvraj scored 59 runs off just 30 balls as India posted 220 runs. Then in reply, Shahbaz Nadeem picked up 4 wickets as the Aussies got bundled out for just 126 runs. Sri Lanka and West Indies will play the other semifinal on Friday.

6. KKR, Gujarat Titans celebrate Holi ahead of IPL 2025

Kolkata Knight Riders and Gujarat Titans players were seen in festive mood as they celebrated holi at their respective team hotels on Friday. KKR had captain Ajinkya Rahane in Holi mode while the likes of Asish Nehra, Saikishore dipped in colours with a smile on the face.

7. Rahmanullah Gurbaz joins KKR camp after post Champions Trophy Break

Rahmanullah Gurbaz has arrived in Kolkata on Friday ahead of the IPL 2025. Gurbaz got an extended leave for his Champions Trophy duties but has now returned to the City of Joy ahead of KKR's IPL 2025 campaign. The Knight Riders still have Varun Chakravarthy, Harshit Rana and Spencer Johnson to join while Umran Malik's fate is not yet confirmed.

8. Man United advance to Europa League quarterfinals

Manchester United secured a stellar 4-1 win over Real Sociedad to book their places in the quarterfinals of Europa League. Bruno Fernandes scored a hat-trick while Diogo Dalot added one in stoppage time as the Red Devils won with a 5-2 aggregate scoreline. They will be facing Olympique Lyon in the next stage of the tournament.

9. Lionel Messi returns for Inter Miami and scores Goal

Lionel Messi returned to action for Inter Miami after a 15-day gap and managed to score a goal for them. The Argentina played the final 37 minutes against Cavalier FC in the CONCACAF Champions Cup Round of 16 2nd leg and found the net. Miami won the match with a 4-0 aggregate score and will now face fellow MLS side Los Angeles FC in the quarterfinals.

10. Lakshya Sen loses Quarterfinal, Treesa Jolly advance to Last 8 in All England Badminton

Lakshya Sen advanced to the All England Badminton quarterfinal but lost the match against Li Shi Feng. On the other hand, Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand prevailed over South Korea's Kim Hye Jeong and Kong Hee Yong 15-21, 21-18, 21-18 to qualify for the quarterfinals.
