Super Bowl LIX Recap: Philadelphia Eagles Triumph 40-22 Over Kansas City Chiefs

By Tanisha Chhabra

In a thrilling Super Bowl LIX, the Philadelphia Eagles emerged victorious, securing their second title with a commanding 40-22 win over the Kansas City Chiefs at the Caesars Superdome. The Eagles delivered a complete performance, dominating on both offense and defense.

Philadelphia set the tone early, jumping to a 24-0 lead at halftime. Their offense, led by quarterback Jalen Hurts, was nearly unstoppable. Hurts threw for two touchdowns and ran for another, amassing 241 passing yards and 72 rushing yards.

His leadership on the field earned him the Super Bowl MVP honors. Miles Sanders added to the Eagles' success, rushing for 68 yards, while the offensive line provided ample protection, allowing Hurts to execute plays effectively.

On defense, the Eagles were relentless. Darius Slay and C.J. Gardner-Johnson played pivotal roles, with the secondary stepping up to intercept Patrick Mahomes' throws and halt Kansas City's momentum. The Eagles' defensive front pressured Mahomes throughout the game, disrupting his rhythm and limiting his options. Though Mahomes threw for 310 yards and two touchdowns in a strong second-half effort, it wasn’t enough to close the gap.

The Chiefs tried to mount a comeback in the second half, with Mahomes connecting on two touchdown passes, but they couldn’t overcome the Eagles' early dominance. Kansas City's offensive line struggled to protect Mahomes, allowing sacks and forcing hurried throws. Despite Mahomes' best efforts, the Chiefs were unable to recover from the early deficit.

Philadelphia's well-rounded team performance solidified their 40-22 victory, marking their second Super Bowl win in franchise history. This win was particularly sweet for the Eagles, as they avenged their heartbreaking loss to the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII, where they fell 38-35. The 2025 victory affirmed the Eagles’ status as one of the NFL's elite teams, and it was a fitting end to a remarkable season.
