TCS World 10K Bengaluru: Ketan Abhonkar To Showcase Joggling In Unique Athletic Pursuit

At the TCS World 10K Bengaluru, Ketan Abhonkar will attempt joggling while running. This unique sport combines endurance and coordination as he aims for the Procam Slam title.

Ketan Abhonkar, a mechanical engineer from Pune, is set to bring the unique sport of joggling to the TCS World 10K Bengaluru on April 27, 2025. Joggling combines running with juggling three balls.

This rare athletic pursuit will see Abhonkar attempting the 10K while maintaining his juggling pattern. His participation highlights the growing interest in this unusual sport.

Abhonkar's journey into joggling began unexpectedly during the pandemic. While playing cricket with family, he discovered his knack for juggling. "I realised I had a natural ability and started exploring it further," he recalls. Inspired by international jogglers, he trained himself to run while juggling, initially in isolation and later in organised events.

The TCS World 10K holds special importance for Abhonkar as it marks the final event needed to complete the Procam Slam title. This title is awarded to those who finish all four major distance races in India within a single season. Abhonkar's participation underscores his dedication to achieving this prestigious accolade.

Joggling demands both physical endurance and mental coordination, making it a challenging sport. Although recognised in over 32 countries with hundreds of practitioners worldwide, it remains largely unknown in India. Abhonkar is believed to be India's first joggler to have completed full marathons while juggling continuously.

Abhonkar's training routine is rigorous and well-structured. He runs three days a week, including long runs on Sundays, and dedicates other days to strength training and cross-training activities like cycling and hiking. He trains with the Pune Running community, which offers structure and support.

His achievements have garnered recognition both nationally and internationally. In 2024, he was named Pune Passion Icon and received the Worldwide Joggler of the Year award. Additionally, he has been featured in the India Book of Records for his marathon joggling accomplishment.

A Journey of Discovery

Abhonkar started running in 2015 with short distances before progressing to full marathons. "It started with small distances, three or five kilometres," he says. Over time, he completed six full marathons, more than 50 half marathons, and over 100 10K events.

His first joggling race was a 5K event that received curiosity and encouragement from spectators and media alike. "At first I was hesitant about how people would react," he shares. "But the reception was incredibly positive." This encouragement motivated him to continue pursuing joggling.

Impact on Fitness Approach

Despite its demands, Abhonkar finds peace through joggling. "Over time, it has become almost meditative," he explains. "I do not think about work or home; it's a complete focus zone." Through his journey, he hopes to inspire others to approach fitness creatively and consistently.

Abhonkar emphasises that records are secondary; what matters most is staying active and enjoying movement. Whether it's yoga or running, consistency is key for him. His journey encourages others to find joy in physical activity while maintaining dedication.
