New Delhi, June 10, 2026: Few athletes successfully transition between completely different disciplines and achieve success in each. Sagar Tugnait is one of those rare exceptions.

Losing 35 Kilograms and Finding Purpose

His journey began long before medals and championships. In 2013, Tugnait completed a life-changing transformation, losing 35 kilograms and rebuilding both his physique and confidence. At the time, he was an aspiring actor trying to establish himself in a highly competitive industry while facing the uncertainties familiar to many young dreamers.

His family was not fully convinced that acting could provide a stable future, and Tugnait felt a strong need to prove that he possessed the discipline, commitment, and resilience required to pursue ambitious goals. To transform himself, he followed a strict regimen of high-intensity interval training, carb cycling, and push-pull weight training. The physical transformation not only changed his appearance but also reshaped his mindset.

That determination eventually led him to powerlifting in 2015.

"At that stage, I wasn't thinking about medals or championships. I simply wanted to prove to myself that I was capable of changing my life through discipline and consistency," said Tugnait.

Gaining 65 Kilograms and Becoming a Powerlifting Champion

What initially began as a personal challenge soon evolved into a highly successful sporting career. Over the next two years, Tugnait progressed rapidly through the ranks, competing from state-level championships to international events. Through relentless training and dedication, he gained nearly 65 kilograms of body weight, transforming himself into a formidable strength athlete.

His training revolved around heavy compound lifts performed in the 4-6 repetition range, complemented by isolation exercises performed with maximum intensity. To support his demanding training schedule, he followed an exceptionally high-calorie diet that included multiple large meals throughout the day.

By 2017, his efforts had earned him nine gold medals and several major titles, positioning him among the country's rising powerlifting talents and putting him on course for the Commonwealth Championships.

However, just as his powerlifting career was reaching new heights, circumstances within the sport forced him to make a difficult decision. Internal challenges and politics brought an abrupt end to a chapter that had defined much of his life.

"Walking away wasn't easy because powerlifting had become a huge part of my identity. But sometimes life forces you to start over, and that's exactly what I did," he recalled.

Losing Another 35 Kilograms for the Amateur Olympia

In 2019, he shifted his focus to bodybuilding and began preparing for the Amateur Olympia, one of the most prestigious competitions in amateur bodybuilding. The timing could not have been more challenging. The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted competitions worldwide, gyms closed for extended periods, and uncertainty surrounded the future of the sport.

Yet Tugnait refused to abandon his goal.

When training facilities reopened, he returned with renewed determination and embarked on another extraordinary transformation. This time, he lost approximately 35 kilograms of body weight and reduced his waistline by nearly 15 inches while developing the muscularity, symmetry, and conditioning required for elite-level bodybuilding.

His training evolved dramatically. Heavy strength-focused workouts gave way to high-volume sessions featuring supersets, giant sets, tri-sets, and advanced intensity techniques. Nutritionally, he transitioned to a structured bodybuilding diet centered around chicken, fish, rice, and green vegetables, carefully managing every aspect of his preparation.

The journey was anything but smooth. During contest preparation, Tugnait battled severe overtraining, adrenal insufficiency, and COVID-19 itself. Yet despite the physical and mental challenges, he continued to push forward.

"Preparing for my first bodybuilding competition was probably one of the toughest phases of my life. There were moments when quitting seemed easier, but I knew I would regret not seeing the journey through," Tugnait said.

His perseverance paid off in 2021. Stepping onto a bodybuilding stage for the very first time, Tugnait competed in the highly competitive Classic Physique division against experienced national and international athletes. Despite facing numerous obstacles during preparation, he secured a 3rd Runner-Up finish at the Amateur Olympia-an impressive achievement for a debut competitor on one of the sport's biggest stages.

Continuing to Evolve

What makes Sagar Tugnait's story remarkable is not simply the medals he has won, but the magnitude of the transformations behind them.

Over the years, he has repeatedly reinvented himself-first losing 35 kilograms, then gaining approximately 65 kilograms to become a championship-level powerlifter, and later transforming once again into a competitive bodybuilder through another dramatic weight-loss journey.

Since 2022, Tugnait has continued to evolve his training philosophy. Combining strength development with muscle-building techniques, he utilizes a wide variety of methods including push-pull routines, body-part specialization, drop sets, giant sets, tri-sets, and high-volume training protocols. By constantly adjusting repetitions, rest periods, and training volume, he continues to pursue both performance and physique excellence.

His nutritional approach has also become deeply personal. For several years, he has primarily followed a disciplined one-meal-a-day lifestyle centered around simple foods such as chicken and rice. Beyond physical benefits, he views this practice as a way of strengthening his faith, discipline, and connection with a higher consciousness.

Today, Sagar Tugnait's journey extends beyond sports. Alongside his athletic achievements, he has established himself as an actor in the Indian entertainment industry, demonstrating that success is not limited to a single field.
