Former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli has made a heartfelt appeal to the younger generation, urging them to steer clear of alcohol during festive celebrations.
The 52-year-old, who has been open about his past struggles with alcoholism, delivered the message after being discharged from Akruti Health City Hospital on New Year's Eve.

Kambli had been hospitalized following serious health complications, including a urinary infection, muscle cramps, and later the discovery of brain clots. His condition had sparked concern across the cricketing community, especially after he appeared in a frail and troubling state at the Ramakant Achrekar memorial ceremony last December.
However, his discharge brought a ray of hope as Kambli left the hospital wearing India's new ODI jersey and carrying a cricket bat, greeted warmly by fans. In a candid interaction, Kambli shared his perspective on the dangers of alcohol, particularly during festive times. "Don't drink alcohol," he said, addressing young people directly. "It's not worth it. Focus on fitness, family, and health instead."
The former cricketer has had a long and public battle with alcoholism, which he has admitted impacted his post-cricket career and personal life. Cricketing legend Kapil Dev, who has been vocal about the need for athletes to prioritize their well-being, recently commented on Kambli's journey.
The India legend also offered full support for Kambli and was ready to pay the expenses for Kambli's rehabilitation, but admitted that the others could only help the Mumbai star if he was willing to come out of the vicious cycle.
"We are all (there) to support him. Sunil Gavaskar has already told me on behalf of the 1983 World Cup-winning team, and I extend my help on my behalf, but more than me trying to support him, he should support himself. We can't look after him if he does not want to look after himself," Kapil Dev said recently.
Kambli's resolve to turn his life around was evident in his gratitude toward the medical staff who helped him recover. "This doctor (Dr. Shailesh Thakur) made me fit again," Kambli told the Times of India. "I promised I'd return to cricket only when I was fit. I will show everyone at Shivaji Park that Vinod Kambli will not give up on cricket. At the hospital, I practiced with the staff and hit only fours and sixes."
