Radhika Yadav, a 25-year-old state-level tennis player, was tragically shot dead by her father, Deepak Yadav, at their home in Gurugram. The incident shocked the nation and raised questions about the motive behind such a drastic act.
Radhika Yadav was a promising Indian tennis player born on March 23, 2000. She competed in various national and international tournaments, achieving a career-best International Tennis Federation (ITF) women's doubles ranking of 113 as of November 2024.

Within India, she held the fifth spot in Haryana's women's doubles rankings and reached as high as 75 in Girls Under-18, 53 in Women's Doubles, and 35 in Women's Singles in the All India Tennis Association (AITA) rankings. Over her career, she played 36 singles and 7 doubles matches on the ITF circuit, last competing internationally in 2024.
Beyond her playing career, Radhika also ran a tennis academy in Gurugram, mentoring young athletes. Social Media Reels and relationship were the reason behind her murder, but the father depicted a different story upon investigation.
According to police investigations and Deepak Yadav's own confession, several factors contributed to the murder.
Dispute Over Financial Independence: Deepak Yadav was deeply troubled by Radhika's growing financial independence. She ran a tennis academy and was earning on her own, which reportedly hurt his sense of pride.
Societal Taunts and Pressure: He faced frequent taunts from people in his native village, Wazirabad, who accused him of living off his daughter's earnings. These remarks reportedly wounded his dignity and led to feelings of depression and resentment.
Radhika Yadav's father killed his daughter after an argument between father and daughter over her refusal to close the tennis academy. Deepak Yadav admitted that the ongoing disputes and external criticism pushed him to commit the crime. There are clear signs of a massive inferiority complex which worked in his mind, leading a father to kill his daughter.
"When I used to go to Wazirabad village to get milk, people used to taunt me, saying that I live off my daughter's earnings. This troubled me a lot. Some people even questioned my daughter's character. I told my daughter to close her tennis academy, but she refused," the father said.
The incident has shocked the entire nation and the accused will now face the law. But behind the mishap, years of inferior feeling and social bullying have played a key part in this heinous crime.
