World Boxing Cup Brazil 2025: India's Abhinash Jamwal delivered a commanding performance to book his place in the 65kg final at the World Boxing Cup Brazil 2025, held in Foz do Iguaçu on Friday.
Facing Italy's Gianluigi Malanga in the semifinals, the 22-year-old Indian boxer put on a tactical masterclass, using his height and quick footwork to stay out of reach while capitalizing on every opening.

Jamwal's dominance was reflected in the judges' scorecards, as he secured a unanimous 5:0 decision. Four of the five judges awarded him a perfect score of 30, with all five giving him the first and third rounds. Malanga, who was put on the defensive from the start, even had to take a standing count in the opening round-putting him at a disadvantage he couldn't recover from.
With this win, Jamwal joins fellow Indian boxer Hitesh in the finals, marking a significant moment for Indian boxing. On Thursday, Hitesh created history by becoming the first Indian to reach the final of the World Boxing Cup. Competing in the 70kg category, he overcame French Olympian Makan Traore in an impressive showing.
While Hitesh will face England's Odel Kamara in the final, Jamwal is set to battle Brazil's Yuri Reis, a local favorite, for the 65kg crown.
However, not all was smooth sailing for the Indian team. Manish Rathore's journey in the 55kg category came to an end in the semifinals, where he suffered a 0:5 loss against Kazakhstan's Nursultan Altynbek.
This edition of the World Boxing Cup marks the first time Indian athletes are participating in a global elite competition organized by World Boxing. The 10-member Indian contingent has made a significant impact, with two finalists and four semifinalists, reaffirming the nation's growing strength on the international boxing circuit.
As finals approach, all eyes will be on Hitesh and Jamwal, who now carry India's hopes of clinching gold at one of the sport's most prestigious global events.
