Yoga is a deeply personal and spiritual practice and has a 5000-year history. The asana part of Yoga has now emerged into the global spotlight as a competitive sport to be featured in the Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan 2026.
Yoga has its roots in India's traditions, and it offers more than just physical and mental well-being- but with Yogasana Sport, we are offering an opportunity for India to invite the world to dive into the Yoga way of life through Yogasana Sport for the youth and the athletes.

The unique combination of flexibility, strength, balance and focus that Yogasana demands makes it the pinnacle of human form and function; and beyond medals, Yogasana is also the perfect platform to educate and drive the wellness economy, positioning India as a global leader in health and wellness. Yoga's conscious way of life is epitomized by Yogasana Sport. "Yog ke saath juda hai Udyog".
For centuries, Yoga has been an integral part of India's cultural and spiritual fabric. Now, Yogasana is gaining worldwide recognition as a structured, competitive sport creating a plethora of opportunities for our athletes, officials and industry.
The upcoming Asian Yogasana Championship has already put Yogasana on the global sports map, attracting athletes worldwide who strive to perfect asanas with precision and grace.
We are thankful to our Honourable Prime Minister and our Government for not only popularising Yoga but also incubating and promoting Yogasana Sport through a formal federated structure to include it in our sporting competitions. The team at Yogasana Bharat have worked tirelessly to structure and drive the sport.
India has historically had a modest Olympic medal count, but Yogasana will augment our aspirations just like other sports in other countries such as Speak Takraw, Wushu and Taekwondo. Unlike other sports requiring expensive equipment or elaborate facilities, Yogasana is accessible and deeply ingrained in Indian culture.
Indian athletes already possess a foundational understanding of the discipline, giving them a head start in mastering the complex postures and breathing techniques required for competition and we are confident that at least 50% of India's medals in multi-event international competitions will come from Yogasana Sport.
With the right investment in training, infrastructure, and international exposure, India can position itself as a global powerhouse in this sport and take our heritage of Yoga to the youth of the world across geographies, genders and religions through the lens of competitive sport.
Additionally, Yogasana has the potential to engage young athletes who may not have access to traditional sports facilities. Its minimal equipment requirements make it an inclusive sport that can be practised in schools, community centres and even at home.
By integrating Yogasana into school curriculums and national sports programs, we can nurture a strong talent pipeline that will dominate international competitions in the years to come.
Beyond medals, the growing popularity of Yoga will also encourage more people in India and globally to embrace fitness and well-being, fostering a healthier and more active way of life.
As more individuals take up Yogasana as a sport, its ripple effect on public health will be significant, reducing lifestyle-related diseases and promoting holistic well-being. This will be the perfect pipeline to encourage the wellness industry to promote itself.
While Yogasana's rise as a sport is exciting, its impact on the wellness economy is equally significant. As the world shifts toward health-conscious living, yoga and wellness-related industries are thriving.
Yogasana's competitive structure adds a new dimension to this booming sector and the Yogasana Super League and many more competitions will create platforms for branding and marketing of health and wellness companies. India has the potential to lead the global wellness economy by promoting Yogasana beyond competition.
The rising demand for yoga-based fitness programs, wellness retreats and holistic health solutions presents enormous business opportunities. From yoga mats and apparel to digital training programs and global wellness tourism, the economic impact of Yogasana is vast.
Moreover, Yogasana's global recognition can help Indian wellness brands expand their reach. The popularity of yoga teacher training programs, online classes and immersive retreats is growing rapidly. If India capitalises on this trend by promoting authentic, competition-oriented Yogasana training, it will strengthen its position as the hub of the global yoga industry.
Furthermore, digital platforms are making Yogasana more accessible than ever. Virtual competitions, online training sessions and wellness apps allow India to showcase its expertise on a global scale. This strengthens India's position as the epicentre of authentic yoga traditions while fuelling industry growth.
The combination of competitive Yogasana and digital outreach can drive significant economic opportunities, benefiting athletes, trainers, wellness entrepreneurs and health tourism. Already Yogasana Bharat has started gamifying Yoga learning and also integrating AI into the development of Yogasana Sport and its training and development.
India has the talent, heritage and global momentum to make Yogasana a dominant force in both sports and wellness. By investing in structured training, global promotions and strategic policy support, we are ensuring that Yogasana not only brings home medals but also cements India's position as a global wellness powerhouse.
The world is excited to welcome Yogasana Sport - India's heritage to the world - as always Yog unites.
