Ex-India Player, TMC MP Yusuf Pathan's In-Laws Arrested in Mumbai, Bail Denied by Court - Here's What Happened!
Three relatives of Trinamool Congress MP and former Indian cricketer Yusuf Pathan, including his father-in-law, were arrested by Byculla police on Monday in connection with a brutal road rage incident that left two people injured, one with a fractured arm.

Why was Yusuf Pathan's In-Laws Arrested?
The incident occurred around 9 pm on Saturday in Mumbai's Byculla locality. According to police, 30-year-old local resident Yusuf Khan was driving home when his car hit a puddle, splashing water onto 35-year-old Shoaib Khan, a relative of Pathan. Khan immediately stopped his vehicle and apologised, but Shoaib allegedly responded with abuse, smashed the car's windshield with a bamboo stick, and physically assaulted him, causing injuries.
Shaken by the attack, Yusuf Khan returned home. His family advised him to file a police complaint, and the group set out for the Byculla police station. On the way, they encountered Shoaib Khan along with Khalid Khan alias Makaliq - Pathan's father-in-law - Khalid's son Umarshad Khan (35), and another relative, Shehbaz Pathan. What started as a heated argument quickly turned violent. The four men allegedly launched a group assault on Yusuf Khan and his relatives using bamboo sticks and a baseball bat.
Yusuf Khan's brother-in-law, Salman, suffered a fractured hand in the attack, while his uncle, Zaki Ahmed, sustained serious injuries. Byculla police registered a case based on the complainant's statement, corroborated by CCTV footage from the area, eyewitness accounts, and the recovery of the weapons used in the assault.
What Happened after Arrest?
The arrested individuals - Khalid Khan, Umarshad Khan, and Shoaib Khan - were booked under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including 118(2), 115(2), 324, 352, 351(2), and 3(5), which cover assault, voluntarily causing grievous hurt, and related offences. They were produced before a magistrate and remanded to judicial custody till May 2. A fourth accused, Shehbaz Pathan, remains absconding, and police are actively searching for him.
Yusuf Pathan, who married Mumbai-based physiotherapist Afreen Khan (daughter of Khalid Khan) in 2013, has no direct involvement in the case. The former all-rounder, who played key roles in India's 2007 T20 World Cup win and later joined the Trinamool Congress as an MP, has not issued any statement on the matter so far.
Court denies Bail
Defence counsel Dayanand Dere described the episode as a "petty mutual fight" and claimed police had presented only one side of the story. He noted that Khalid Khan is a senior citizen. However, the prosecution opposed bail, citing the need for custodial interrogation to trace the absconding accused, verify criminal antecedents, and prevent tampering of evidence. A cross-complaint FIR was later filed against the original complainant as well.
