In 2010, Nurik began his swimming journey at the age of 11 in Taraz, Kazakhstan. Initially, he pursued non-Para swimming and represented Kazakhstan at the 2017 World Junior Championships in Indianapolis, USA. However, in 2020, an eye specialist advised him to switch to Para swimming due to his vision.

At the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo, Nurik made history by becoming the youngest athlete from Kazakhstan to win a Paralympic medal. He claimed bronze in the men's SB13 100m breaststroke at the age of 22 years and 216 days. This achievement is his most memorable moment.
In recognition of his bronze medal at the Tokyo Paralympics, Nurik received the Order of Kurmet [Honour] from the president of Kazakhstan. Additionally, he holds the title of Master of Sport in Kazakhstan.
Nurik cites his father as his biggest influence and Russian mixed martial artist Khabib Nurmagomedov as his hero. His personal philosophy is: "Everyone has failures. There are successes and falls, you need to endure and overcome all this, and then there will be a result."
Looking ahead, Nurik aims to win a gold medal at the Paralympic Games. His dedication and past achievements suggest that he is well on his way to achieving this goal.
Outside of swimming, Nurik enjoys horse riding, parachuting, and travel. He is also a student at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University in Almaty, where he studies Physical Education.
