Balraj Panwar, the lone Indian rower to qualify for the Paris Olympics, is gearing up for the quadrennial event. Hailing from Nuh in the Mehwat district of Haryana, Panwar is currently training at a camp in Gravelines, France. His 25-year-old training partner, Salman Khan, accompanies him. Although Salman won’t compete in the Olympics, he’s thrilled to play his part as a sparring partner. The duo follows individual training programs, adapting to the cool and pleasant French weather.

Panwar’s impressive debut at the Asian Games propelled his rowing career forward.

A 25-year-old Indian Army rower, Panwar secured India’s first quota in rowing for the Paris Olympics. He clinched the bronze medal in the men’s single sculls event at the Asian and Oceania Rowing Qualification Regatta in April 2024, with a timing of 7:01.27.
