Singapore's celebrated athlete, known as the "Golden Girl," has made significant strides in her swimming career. She began swimming at age six and started competing at 12. She has been named Sportswoman of the Year at the Singapore Disability Sports Awards in 2019, 2021, 2022, and 2023. In 2022, she received the Emerging Leadership award from the International Paralympic Committee and the inaugural President's Award for Inspiring Achievement from Singapore's president.
She was also a flag bearer for Singapore at multiple events, including the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. In 2015, she was named Athlete of the Year by The Straits Times newspaper. She was inducted into the Singapore Women's Hall of Fame in 2014 and into Singapore's Sports Hall of Fame in 2015.
Her mother is her hero, and she draws inspiration from her parents, Para swimmer Theresa Goh, and coaches Jiao Yang and Ang Peng Siong. Her guiding philosophy is to "be committed in whatever you do."
She aims to compete at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris, hoping to add to her tally of five gold medals. She debuted at the Paralympics in 2008 as a 16-year-old. She focuses on aerobic endurance and feeling connected in the water. She is determined to give her best performance, treating each event as potentially her last.
From 2018 to 2020, she served as a Nominated Member of Parliament (NMP) in Singapore, providing non-partisan views. She has been part of Sport Singapore's Safe Sport Task Force. She aims to raise awareness for Para sports and hopes to see a more active lifestyle among all Singaporeans.
She has been a member of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Athlete Committee and an ambassador for Swim Champ Kinesis. She has also chaired the Singapore Para Athlete Commission and served as vice-chairperson on The Purple Parade's working committee.
In 2017, she co-authored a children's book titled 'The Mermaid Who Became a Champion.'
