He began training with a prosthetic leg in 2018, eight months after his accident. While recovering in hospital, he decided to compete in Para athletics at an elite level. He had previously competed internationally in non-Para athletics before his accident.
His ambition is to win a medal at the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris. He and Para swimmer Camila Haase were named flag bearers for Costa Rica at the opening ceremony of the 2023 Parapan American Games.
