Alcaraz Sets Sights On US Open Victory After Cincinnati Disappointment

Carlos Alcaraz is ready to move past his Cincinnati Open defeat and focus on the US Open. Despite recent setbacks, he's aiming for a strong performance and potentially ending the year as the world number one.

Carlos Alcaraz is keen to move past his emotional outburst at the Cincinnati Open as he gears up for the US Open. The Spaniard has had a remarkable three months, clinching the French Open and Wimbledon titles consecutively before securing a silver medal at the Olympics. However, his transition back to hard courts has been challenging, evidenced by his unexpected loss to Gael Monfils in Cincinnati's second round.

After dominating the first set against Monfils, rain delayed the match with the second set tied at 6-6. The Frenchman then rallied to win both the tie-break and the final set. Alcaraz's frustration was palpable as he smashed his racquet four times during the third set. He acknowledged struggling with the court surface but is determined to improve his preparation for the US Open.

Alcaraz Targets US Open Win

"I couldn't play. Honestly, I'd been practising really well," Alcaraz said. "The previous days, I was feeling great, hitting the ball clear, moving well. I don't know what happened. I don't know how I felt like this."

Despite his recent setback, Alcaraz remains optimistic about his chances at Flushing Meadows, where he won his first grand slam as a teenager. He aims to adapt quickly to New York's courts and put his Cincinnati experience behind him. "I'll go to New York and try to practise well, get used to those courts," he stated.

The world number three is also eyeing a significant year-end goal: overtaking Jannik Sinner and Novak Djokovic to become the top-ranked player globally. "I'm focused on going to every tournament, thinking about playing great tennis, doing a good result to get better in the race," Alcaraz added. "Ending the year as number one is one of my main goals."

Alcaraz's journey over recent months has been nothing short of impressive, with consecutive grand slam victories and an Olympic silver medal highlighting his talent and determination. However, his recent performance on hard courts shows that even top athletes face challenges and must continually adapt.

The upcoming US Open presents an opportunity for Alcaraz to demonstrate resilience and skill on one of tennis's biggest stages. His ability to bounce back from setbacks will be crucial as he aims for another grand slam title and strives for the coveted world number one ranking.

As Alcaraz prepares for New York, fans eagerly await seeing if he can replicate his earlier successes this year and achieve his ambitious goals by year's end.
