Asian Games: Indian women's tennis team reaches quarters

Incheon, Sep 20: The Indian women's tennis team advanced to the quarterfinals by beating Oman 3-0 in the first round of the 17th Asian Games at the Yeorumul Tennis Courts here Saturday.

Prarthana Gulabrao Thombare and Ankita Raina notched up wins in the singles event while pairing of Natasha Marie Anne Palha and Rishika Sunkara received a walkover in the doubles match.

Prarthana blitzed Sarah Abdulmajeed Rasheed Balushi 6-0, 6-1 in just 52 minutes to give India the lead after the first singles.

Ankita, though, didn't have it so easy and had to fight hard to register a 6-4, 2-6, 6-3 in an hour and 55 minutes.

With India 2-0 ahead after the first two singles matches, the team of Natasha and Rishika were received a walkover in the doubles encounter, giving India a 3-0 win and a berth in the quarterfinals where they will take on second seeds Kazakhstan.
