Australian Open 2025: Lousy Aussies must apologise to Novak Djokovic | Opinion

Entire Australia must apologise to Novak Djokovic for meeting out shit treatment to him following withdrawal from the Australian Open in the semi-finals.

This was no fake injury, this was a serious one, a tear, which MRI scans have revealed. Novak competed hard against Alexander Zverev before his body could no longer handle the pain. Still, he had competed for a set and a tie-breaker.

Novak Djokovic

All those who watched Novak play knew he was no fit. And that was the reason why he had not come for practice as well on Thursday after his massive win against win over Carlos Alcaraz in the quarter-finals. He had stretched and strained himself in that match and produced his best. To be sure, even in that match, it was clear, Novak had sustained an injury.

The first part, now, is what is the reason for Aussie fans to behave like lager louts. They are ill-mannered, they are cheap and boorish. Taunting Novak is their habit, for, they are racists to the core. Novak has only brought them joy repeatedly, winning 10 titles at the AO.

If this is what he gets in return, Novak must never return to Melbourne. Sadly, those who run tennis in Australia, notably the Australian Open, are incompetent. Craig Tiley was needed to defuse the crisis when a Channel 9 reporter was working up the crowds in Melbourne Park earlier.

When Novak refused to do the onsite TV interview, the TV reporter was sacked. This is Australia, a nation which has a sense of superiority without realising they are convicts who were thrown out of England and sent by ship several decades ago. See their arrogance now.

This is not the first time their media had committed a double fault as well. During the BGT Series, the print media was taunting Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and many more. Their newspaper headlines are like best kept for a crap in the loo. They were unkind even to Jasprit Bumrah, the hero, who was injured. So, fans, too, are lousy. They do not deserve to host a Grand Slam.

For those who were upset and saw Novak speak on Friday, he still explained how hard he tried. Did he did need to, in the first place? No. All this hostile behaviour from fans inside the Rod Laver arena and other shower courts at the AO tell you one thing: Aussies are sick.

They did this to Novak in 2023 as well , when he played with an injury. Tennis fans, globally, will weep should Novak retire. No, he still plays awesome tennis, as was evident from his performance this fortnight.

Australia, a nation which fed Novak food laced with poison (heavy metals) the year he was under detention and then deported tells you how lousy their mindset is. Why kill someone who has only been a champion to win 24 Grand Slam titles and an Olympic gold medal in Paris 2024.

No Aussie player in recent years can touch such lofty heights. Will Novak retire? No, he should not. Just because he had an injury again does not mean he is past prime. At 37, he is facing injuries. But in the company of new coach Sir Andy Murray, he can soar.

Last point, why is the International Tennis Federation, the ATP Tour and the other guardians of tennis allowing the fans such cheap behaviour when it comes to Novak Djokovic. Yes, Grand Slams do come under the ITF. Will they watch a champion being ill-treated? The silence is unacceptable.
