Melbourne, Jan 20: Defeating Tamarine Tanasugarn 6-3, 6-3 in the second round of Australian Open, the US Open champ Kim Clijsters took one more step towards her second consecutive Grand slam title.
Clijsters, who is ranked 15, has now advanced to the third round of the tournament to set up a fight with Russian Nadia Petrova.
In the men's draw, defending champion Rafael Nadal and No 7 Andy Roddick emerged victorious in the second-round matches.
