The DafaNews Bengaluru Open, now in its ninth iteration, is set to commence on February 24 at the KSLTA Courts, Cubbon Park, running until March 2. This event, known for its significance in India and the global tennis circuit, boasts a prize pool of $200,000 and offers 125 ATP ranking points to the singles winner.

With a strong participation from nine top-200 ranked players, including World No. 128 Vit Kopriva and World No. 135 Tristan Schoolkate, the event is poised for high-caliber competition.

The tournament, marking a decade since its debut in 2015, has become a cornerstone in the Indian sports calendar, elevating its status to an ATP Challenger 125 event. This enhancement reflects its growing importance and the quality of play it attracts. Vit Kopriva, leading the field, enters with recent success, including a final appearance at the Bangkok Open. He, along with contenders like Tristan Schoolkate, Elmer Møller, Ugo Blanchet, and Alexis Galarneau, promises to deliver thrilling tennis action. Adding to the excitement, former top-20 player Bernard Tomic will also compete, aiming to extend his impressive career achievements.

India's Premier Tennis Event Attracts Top Talent

This year's edition not only celebrates a significant milestone but also features a competitive field with a cutoff at World No. 237, ensuring a week filled with high-quality tennis. The 32-player singles draw includes a diverse mix of 20 direct entrants, qualifiers, special exemptions, a Next Gen Accelerator, and wildcards, highlighting the tournament's inclusive and varied nature.

Sunil Yajman, the Tournament Director, expressed his enthusiasm for the depth of talent participating this year. He believes the high cutoff and quality lineup will offer Indian tennis fans an exceptional viewing experience while providing local players a precious opportunity to compete on their soil. Yajman underscored the special nature of this year's tournament, noting the 10-year anniversary and the upgraded status, which collectively enhance the competition's prestige.

A Rich History of International and Local Success

The Bengaluru Open has a history of notable winners, including Italy's Stefano Napolitano in 2024 and two Indian champions, Sumit Nagal and Prajnesh Gunneswaran, in earlier editions. Despite not being held in 2016, 2019, and 2021, its return signals a strong continuation of tennis excellence. The winners and finalists of this event accrue significant ATP points, with the champion earning 125 points, further solidifying its status as a key tournament on the ATP Challenger Tour.
