Bhupathi-Knowles claim second spot in Miami Masters

Miami, Apr 6: Mahesh Bhupathi and Mark Knowles' great run this season ended on a disappointing note as Mike and Bob Bryan strolled through victory in straight sets over their fourth seed rivals to win the 3,77,0000 dollars Sony Ericsson Open here.

Top seed Bryan brothers won their first ATP doubles title this season as they defeated Bhupathi and Knowles 6-2, 6-2 in just 53 minutes in a one-sided affair yesterday. The Indo-Bahamas reached the finals with 14 wins from their last 15 matches but the Bryan brothers ended their great sequence of wins and never faced a break point in the whole match. On the other hand, Knowles was broken twice the opening set - in the fourth and eighth games while Bhupathi too, was broken twice in the second set.

The win here, gave defending champions, the Bryans, their 45th career title together (11th ATP Masters Series) and were appearing in their ATP-best fifth final of the year after runner-up finishes in Sydney, San Jose, Las Vegas and Delray Beach.

''Today was one of the best matches we played in a long time.

I think the last time we played like that was against Mark Knowles in Basel in the fall, and it was 6-1, 6-1.

''Today was the same way,'' said Mike Bryan.

Knowles, who was attempting to become the 20th player in the Open Era to win 50 career doubles titles, alon with Bhupathi who also had his sights set on his 44th career title, later admitted that they were comprehensively beaten by the Americans.
