Bhupathi wins ATP doubles title in Memphis

Memphis (US), Mar 3 (UNI) Indian tennis star Mahesh Bhupathi and his partner Mark Knowles won the doubles title in the 769,000 dollar Regions Morgan Keegan Championships here last night.

The top seeded Indo-Bahamas pair took one hour and 16 minutes to beat Thai twins Sanchai and Sonchat Ratiwatana in straight sets 7-6(5), 6-2.

''It's good to have the first title of the year. We started off really well in Melbourne feeling pretty confident,'' an visibly exhilarated Bhupathi said.

''We both served well, focused hard because we knew if we played well we could have a shot at the title.'' It was Bhupathi's 42nd career title while Knowles won his 48th.

Bhupathi and Knowles now head for Dubai where the duo is seeded fourth. Other Indian in the action would be Rohan Bopanna and Leander Paes who would be playing alongside their respective partners.
