Bhupathi-Zimonjic crashed out of US Open

By Staff

New York, Sept 2: In a major upset Mahesh Bhupathi and his Serbian partner Nenad Zimonjic crashed out of the US Open after being overpowered by the American duo of Robert Kendrick and Sam Querrey in a three-setter here.

The sixth seeded Indo-Serbian duo lost the second round match to the unseeded American duo 6-3, 3-6, 4-6 in a match that lasted one hour and thirty minutes.

With this loss, all the hopes of a men's doubles title for India is dashed as Leander Paes, another title hopeful from the sub-continent, has already been beaten in the first round in the flushing meadows.

The sixth seeded pair gave away too many break points, which the US pair took full advantage. Kendrick-Querrey converted almost 67 per cent of the break points in comparison to their much fancied rivals, who managed only 14 per cent of it.
