Bhupathi-Zimonjic in, Leander-Damm out of US Open

New York, Aug 31: Mahesh Bhupathi and Nenad Zimonjic of Serbia cruised into the second round of the US Open, while his estranged partner Leander Paes and Martim Damm duo made a shocking exit in the opening round.

Bhupathi-Zimonjic defeated unseeded Russian combo of Igor Kunitsyn and Dmitry Tursunov 6-3, 7-5 in a match that lasted little more than one hour.

The sixth seed Indo-Serbian pair will now face all Ameican duo of Robert Kendrick and Sam Querrey in the next round.

However, amidst all the news about Sania and Bhupathi's victory, there was also some sad news in the offing for Indian tennis fans as veteran Leander Paes and his Czech partner Martin Damm were crashed out in the first round by French pair of Julien Benneteau and Nicolas Mahut.

Benneteau-Mahut defeated the fourth seeds 6-7, 6-3, 6-4 to register the first of the men's doubles event in this years US Open.
