Bobrav Triumphs as ITF Davangere Open Champion in Impressive Victory

ITF Dharwad Open winner Bogdan Bobrav wasn't feeling well. The ITF Davangere Open is being held in Davangere, and his new buddy and doubles partner of the past three weeks, Nick Chappell, persuaded him to join.

A couple of days later, Bobrav, who was ranked second, expressed his gratitude to his doubles partner for helping him win the singles championship at the Davangere Tennis Association Courts.

He also earned 15 ATP points and defeated top seed Chappell, earning US $2160 as the winner. The runner-up check for US $1,272 was all Chappell could get.

Bobrov, who had suffered a loss in the semifinals the previous week, showed strong playmaking abilities and a steady consistency. His six ITF titles and third on hard courts came from his 6-3, 7-6 (4) triumph. He attributed his success to his abilities to manage the tempo of the match, make accurate strokes, and keep his cool under pressure.

In the opening game of the battle, Bobrav grabbed the initiative and broke his opponent's serve to take a 2-0 lead. Bobrov won the first set 6-3 after both players maintained their serves for the following six games. In the ninth game, Bobrov broke through once more.

In the second set, Bobrav, the taller of the two opponents, led 3-1 after two breaks because of a few unintentional mistakes made by Chappell and some excellent passing strokes by Bobrav. But the southpaw, who received the most encouragement from the hostile Sunday audience, produced an incredible comeback by playing aggressive tennis and levelled the score at three.

Long rallies and slices that frequently came dangerously close to kissing the net delighted the fans as both players displayed excellent tennis. Following a tie-breaker in which neither player could hold the other's serve, Bobrav won 7-4.
