Carlos Alcaraz Injury Update: Spain Captain Says 'Everything Is Going Well'

Carlos Alcaraz's long-awaited return to the ATP Tour may be edging closer after Spain Davis Cup captain David Ferrer delivered an encouraging update on the world No. 2's recovery from a wrist injury.

The Spaniard has been sidelined since April after hurting his right wrist during his opening-round victory over Otto Virtanen at the Barcelona Open. The injury has forced him to miss a significant stretch of the season, including Madrid, Rome, the French Open, Queen's Club and Wimbledon.

While Alcaraz is yet to announce a return date, Ferrer has revealed that the recovery process is progressing well.

Ferrer Offers Reassurance on Carlos Alcaraz Recovery

Ferrer, who remains in regular contact with the 23-year-old, urged fans to remain patient while emphasizing that Alcaraz's rehabilitation is moving in the right direction.

"Stay calm. Rest assured that everything is going well," Ferrer told AS.

"The important thing is that Carlos recovers completely, one day at a time. There's no need to overthink it."

Ferrer stressed that the focus remains on ensuring a full recovery rather than rushing back to competition.

"It's an injury that needs to be treated carefully, and the good thing is that Carlos is mentally very strong and is in good hands," he added.

Wrist Injury Forces Carlos Alcaraz Out of Major Events

The injury setback came at a difficult stage of the season for Alcaraz.

After winning his seventh Grand Slam title at the Australian Open earlier this year, the Spaniard was expected to challenge for titles throughout the clay-court swing before carrying momentum into Wimbledon.

Instead, the wrist issue forced him to withdraw from multiple ATP Masters 1000 tournaments as well as Roland Garros and the grass-court season.

According to injury prevention specialist Stephen Smith, the reported issue is believed to involve an inflamed tendon sheath in the wrist, an injury that generally requires careful management but is not typically considered long-term.

Muguruza Warns Against Rushing Return

Former world No. 1 Garbine Muguruza also weighed in on Alcaraz's recovery, highlighting the delicate nature of wrist injuries in tennis.

"Alcaraz's wrist injury is complicated. The wrist has small bones, so it needs to be handled very carefully," Muguruza explained.

She also cautioned against the temptation many players face to accelerate their return timelines.

"He needs to control his anxiety about returning. We players feel a lot of pressure to come back quickly, to not lose our spot or our place. He has to be smart and take his time."

US Hard-Court Swing Could Be Target

While there is still no official timeline for his comeback, Muguruza suggested the upcoming North American hard-court season may be a realistic target.

"Hopefully, he'll be ready for the American tour. Grass is a tricky surface to return to. It seems he's recovering well, that's what I'm hearing, but we have to be careful," she said.

The comments offer the strongest indication yet that Alcaraz could return later this summer if his rehabilitation continues without setbacks.

For now, Spain's biggest tennis star remains focused on recovery, but Ferrer's positive update will provide encouragement to fans hoping to see the two-time Wimbledon champion back on court sooner rather than later.
