Carlos Alcaraz Aims for Kangaroo Tattoo to Celebrate Australian Open Title Victory

Carlos Alcaraz, known for commemorating his Grand Slam victories with tattoos, plans to add a kangaroo design if he wins the Australian Open. This would complete his collection of tennis's four major events.

At 21, Alcaraz is on track to become the youngest man to achieve a career Grand Slam. He advanced in Melbourne by defeating Portugal's Nuno Borges, ranked 33rd, with scores of 6-2, 6-4, 6-7 (3), 6-2.

Alcaraz already has tattoos marking his major wins: the date of his first title at the 2022 U.S. Open, a strawberry for his two Wimbledon victories in 2023, and the Eiffel Tower for last year's French Open win. When asked about his potential Australian Open tattoo, he said with a smile, "A kangaroo, that's for sure." He added that lifting the trophy is the only thing missing.

Alcaraz's Journey at Melbourne Park

During his match against Borges, Alcaraz experienced a brief lapse in performance. Despite leading comfortably, he suddenly struggled to land shots accurately. This shift allowed Borges to take control and win the third-set tiebreaker 6-2. Alcaraz committed several unforced errors during this stretch, including missed forehands and backhands.

However, Alcaraz quickly regained his form and focus. Early in the fourth set, he secured a break-point and celebrated with his trademark "Vamos!" shout. This was followed by an impressive sequence where he retrieved a short shot and then hit a forehand passing winner after sprinting back to the baseline.

Alcaraz's momentum caused him to slip and fall but he quickly recovered. He acknowledged the crowd's support by pointing to his ear and raising his fist in celebration. "I'm trying to play different tennis, showing different kinds of shots," Alcaraz said about his evolving game style.

Alcaraz's Ambitions

Alcaraz is clear about his ambitions both for this tournament and beyond. He aims to win the Australian Open after reaching the quarterfinals last year. Additionally, he aspires to reclaim the No. 1 ranking and win numerous tournaments. However, his primary focus remains on accumulating as many Grand Slam titles as possible.

Looking ahead, Alcaraz will face either Britain's Jack Draper or Australia's Aleksandar Vukic in the next round. His determination and skill make him a formidable opponent as he continues his quest for another Grand Slam victory.
