Charity looms large for Federer in post-retirement life

Roger Federer says he wants to devote more time for charity works after retiring from tennis

Roger Federer and Bill Gates

Bengaluru, March 7: Tennis world without Roger Federer is quite unthinkable - the graceful presence on the court and those silken smooth strokes. Through Federer, tennis elevates itself to the realm of art.

Even at 36, Federer remains a great force and not many will wish to see him walk away. But that day is closer to us and Federer has dropped a hint in to his post-retirement life.

The Swiss master said he will engage with the world through his Roger Federer Foundation and its related charity work.

"Sooner or later, the moment will come when my tennis career is done and I have more time to spend with my foundation. I definitely look forward to being able to travel more often to Africa, visit our programs, and raise more money for our cause.

"Of course, there will be challenges along the way-but I hope to grow in my knowledge and experience every day. Becoming a good philanthropist is a never-ending journey," said Federer in a post he wrote on gatesnotes.com, the platform of Bill Gates.

Federer has joined hands with Gates for the charity work though his foundation, established in 2003 after his first Grand Slam victory in Wimbledon.
