Chennai Open: Paes-Bhupathi sail to 2nd round

Chennai, Jan 4: The Indian Express, Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi, defeated Frank Dancevic and Stanislas Wawrinka to enter to the second round of Aircel ATP Chennai Open tennis tournament in Chennai on Monday, Jan 3.

The top seeds Paes and Bhupathi thrashed the Canadian-Swiss 3-6, 7-6 (8), 10-4 in just one hour, 34-minutes. Former World No. 1 doubles team, Paes and Bhupathi, paired after nine years to win the world again.

The Indian duo, who won ATP Chennai Open four times, displayed their old magic in the field with great ground support from crowd. They lost the first set but fought back to win the second and third. Indians took 7-1 lead in the third set and finished up with 10-4.

Another Indian pair, Somdev Devvarman and Sanam Singh, lost in their opening match to the Dutch-US combination of Robin Haase and David Goffin. The Indian pair, who won the Asian Games gold in men's doubles, won the first set, but lost in the second and third 5-7, 6-2, 10-8.
