New York, Sep 8: The women's US Open semifinal between second seed Kim Clijsters and American ace, Venus Williams is set to be a nail-biter.

Fighting swirling winds at the Flushing Meadows, Clijsters handed out a three-set 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 defeat to Australian Samantha Stosur to walk into the semi-finals.

Venus Williams, on the other hand, defeated Roland Garros champion Francesca Schiavone 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 in her quarterfinal battle at the US Open 2010.

“Venus is a great competitor and is playing some great tennis. It will be a fun match. It"s a challenge to be in another semi-final here," the Belgian defending champion said on her next opponent, who has won the title twice in the past (2000 and 2001).
