Defending champion Coco Gauff advanced to the second round of the US Open with a decisive straight-sets victory over Varvara Gracheva on Monday. The 20-year-old American needed just 67 minutes to defeat the Frenchwoman 6-2, 6-0 at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Gracheva began the match strongly, serving to love in the first game and nearly breaking Gauff's serve twice in the second game. However, Gauff soon found her rhythm, securing two breaks and winning three consecutive games to claim the first set. In the second set, she dominated, not dropping a single game and setting up a second-round clash with Tatiana Maria.

In another match, Olympic gold medallist Qinwen Zheng had to rally from behind to defeat Amanda Anisimova. After losing the first set, the seventh seed fought back to win 4-6, 6-4, 6-2. Zheng gained control in the final set to secure her place in the next round.
Last year, Gauff won her first Grand Slam title at Flushing Meadows, becoming the first American teenager to win the US Open since Serena Williams in 1999. She is now the youngest player to achieve eight consecutive wins at this tournament since Maria Sharapova's nine-win streak between 2006 and 2007. Additionally, Gauff is also the youngest player to secure 15 women's singles wins at the US Open since Caroline Wozniacki in 2010.
The young American continues to make history with her impressive performances on the court.
