CWG: Brit tennis player withdraws citing injury

By Samyuktha
London, Sep 28: Failing to recover completely from back injury, ace British tennis player Richard Bloomfield has opted out of the Delhi Commonwealth Games (CWG).

“I"m so disappointed to miss out on the Commonwealth Games. I was really looking forward to representing my country, particularly given this is the first time tennis has been part of the Games.

“But I"ve been advised that my back injury will take another two or three weeks to heal, so the event has unfortunately come just that bit too soon," Bloomfield said in a British Lawn Tennis Association statement.

Bloomfield, who is rated as England"s fifth-best tennis player, adds to the growing list of athletes dropping out of the scandal-marred Commonwealth Games.

However, the reason cited by the British tennis player does not add to the embarrassments as he is not part of the huge majority of the athletes, who withdrew on security and health concerns.
