Danielle Collins’ ‘Love-Hate Relationship’ With Aussie Crowd- Oh Wait, Didn’t Virat Kohli Have a Similar Experience?

In the world of sports, there are two types of athletes: those who quietly go about their business, letting their game do the talking, and those who thrive on the crowd's energy, even when it's not always positive.

Danielle Collins and Virat Kohli fall squarely into the latter category-athletes who love to turn the heat up when the fans decide to get personal. These two sports icons have perfected the art of taunting, sarcasm, and flipping negativity into motivation.

Danielle Collins and Virat Kohli are two athletes who not only embrace the boos but use them to fuel their performances. Their on-court antics and crowd exchanges have become legendary. These stars turn every bit of hostility into a motivational booster. Let's dive into the world of crowd-taunting and dramatic comebacks.

Danielle Collins: Giving the Aussie Crowd a Run for Their Money

When it comes to getting under the skin of an audience, American tennis player Danielle Collins knows how to do it with style. During her Australian Open second-round match against Aussie qualifier Destanee Aiava, the 10th seed wasn't just focused on securing the win; she was fully engaged with the crowd-almost to the point of sarcasm overload.

After winning a three-set thriller (7-6, 4-6, 6-2), Collins took the opportunity to give the crowd a little extra. Raising her hand to her ear to egg them on, she then blew a kiss and followed it up with a cheeky gesture towards the audience. The crowd wasn't having it, booing her during her post-match interview, but Collins didn't back down.

Instead, she doubled down with sarcasm, "I was thinking through the match, I might as well just take that big fat paycheck," she said, grinning. "Coco [Gauff] and I, we love a good five-star vacation, so part of that cheque will go towards that, so thank you. Thank you for coming out here and supporting us tonight."

Collins, far from being fazed, thrived off the crowd's negative energy, revealing, "I was super happy to do that. One of the greatest things about being a professional athlete is the people that don't like you and the people that hate you, they actually pay your bills. It's kind of a cool concept."

She later pointed out that "a lot of people were super drunk and had a hard time controlling themselves," before she was asked if being labeled the "pantomime villain" bothered her.

She shrugged it off, saying, "All I have to say is good luck pissing somebody off or getting under the skin of somebody that doesn't... can I say it?" She paused, looking at the moderator, who quickly stepped in. "Good luck trying to get under the skin of somebody that doesn't really care," she added, with a confident smirk.

Virat Kohli's Fiery Relationship with the Aussie Crowd

On the other side of the sporting world, Indian cricketer Virat Kohli has long been known for his fiery exchanges with fans-particularly in Australia. His relationship with the Australian crowd is nothing short of turbulent, with jeers and boos following him wherever he goes. But Kohli? He thrives on it.

During the recent Test series in Sydney, after dismissing Steve Smith, Kohli performed a little taunt of his own, emptying his pockets in reference to the infamous sandpapergate scandal that shook Australian cricket in 2018. It was a subtle yet bold move, reminding the Aussies of their past. It wasn't the first time Kohli had stirred the pot, and it certainly wouldn't be the last.

His fiery personality continued to ignite tension in the Melbourne Test, especially after a shoulder-thud incident with debutant Sam Konstas. The crowd didn't hold back with their boos, but Kohli urged them to boo even louder.

Rather than letting the crowd's hostility rattle him, he leaned into it, amplifying the drama even further. As a result, Kohli had an incredibly successful match, as he used the negative energy as motivation to perform at his best.

Danielle Collins and Virat Kohli are masters at turning the tables on their critics and turning every negative moment into a motivational one. While some might shy away from an antagonistic crowd, Collins and Kohli embrace it, using the energy to sharpen their focus and fuel their drive.

Whether it's tennis or cricket, these two know exactly how to keep the crowd on their toes-and keep themselves performing at their best.
