Delhi Simran shocks Parminder in AITA tennis
Chandigarh, Apr 10 (UNI) Simran Sethi of Delhi pulled off a big surprise as she shocked second seeded Parminder Kaur of Chandigarh in straight sets 6-2, 6-4 in the girls Under-14 singles second round match in the AITA Talent Tennis Tournament at the CLTA Sports Complex here today.
Simran will now cross swords with another Delhi player Jasmine Bajaj who ended the challenge of Madhushani of Sri Lanka 7-5, 6-1.
Madhushani had joined CLTA under the Commonwealth Youth Programme Asia Centre which has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association (CLTA) today.
Top seeded Ikttesh Chahal of Chandigarh did not drop even a single game to blank another Chandigarh girl Saumya Chaudhary 6-0, 6-0. Fourth seed Harnoor Kaur Mann of Chandigarh recorded an impressive 6-0, 6-2 win over Vibhuti Khullar.
In the girls Under-12 singles second round matches, top seed Bhavika Wadawan of Chandigarh ended the challenge of Nikita of Chandigarh with a 6-1, 6-3 victory.
Playing percentage tennis, seventh seed Nandini of Chandigarh showed the exit door to Mumitu Jannat of Bangladesh with a 6-4, 6-2 verdict. Second seed Simran Sethi of Delhi blanked Nimrat Walia of Chandigarh 6-0, 6-0.
A mild upset was witnessed in the boys Under-14 singles second round encounter as Kamal Kishore Maderana of Rajasthan upset seventh seed Davinder Singh of Chandigarh in straight sets 6-1, 6-1.
