Disappointing day for Indians In ITF Women's Circuit

Muzaffarnagar, Nov 4 (UNI) India's Poojashree Venkatesha went down fighting to Australian Cassandra Barr 4-6, 6-7 (8) in first-round match of the 10,000 dollars Bhavana Swarop ITF Women's Circuit being played here today.

Barr will now meet Patrycja Sanduska of Poland who ousted qualifier Shweta Rana of India in straight sets 6-2, 6-4. On a day when Indians gave a disappointing performance, second seed and 327th ranked Vivan Segnini of Brazil defeated Indian qualifier Archana Venkatraman in straight sets 6-4, 6-2.

Great Britain's sixth seeded Emily Webley Smith defeated wild card entrant Saneeya Singh of India without dropping even a single game by 6-0, 6-0. Chinese proved too good for wild card Avni Jain of India who was blanked by 6-0, 6-0. The Chinese will now cross swords with top seed Thyssen Nicole of Holland in the second round.

Another Indian who made her exit from the singles was Shalini Sahoo as her opponent third seed Leonie Mekel of Neatherland raced to a comfortable 6-2,6-3 win.

In an all-India first-round affairs seventh seed Parija Maloo defeated qualifier Geeta Manohar by 6-2, 7-5 and Kumari Sweta Solanki beat qualifier Anushri Thammanna by 6-2, 6-2.

In the double matches, Indian duo of Sanna Bhambri and Rashmi Chakravarthi beat Indian pair of Ratnika Batra and Garima Vatwani 6-0, 6-2. Lullia Kiriienkio of Ukrane and Harshini Reddy of India lost to Vivan Segnini (Brazil) and Emilly Webley Smith of Great Britan by 4-6, 1-6.
