Djokovic and Murray bring refreshing change
MIAMI, Mar 29 (Reuters) The winds of change have not exactly whipped through the Sony Ericsson Open this week but Briton Andy Murray and Serb Novak Djokovic have brought a refreshing breeze to the men's game.
After watching Roger Federer and to a lesser extent Rafael Nadal dominate recently, Djokovic and Murray have been doing their best to provide fans with a bit of variety.
For the second consecutive Masters Series event, the two 19-year-olds, born a week apart in May 1987, will clash on Friday for a place in the final.
Last week at Indian Wells, Djokovic prevailed against Murray before going on to lose to Nadal.
The Serb took quick revenge on the Spaniard, beating Nadal 6-3 6-4 on Wednesday to advance to the semis.
''I think you've all had enough of Roger Federer winning every tournament,'' Djokovic told reporters. ''I'm trying to measure and compare myself to the best players in the world.
''My lifetime goal is to be number one so I'm really doing everything to do that.'' Voted the ATP's most improved player last year, Djokovic began this season in style by capturing his third career title in Adelaide and advancing to the quarter-finals of the Australian Open.
The Serb carried his form to the United States where he has enjoyed a brilliant hardcourt campaign.
Djokovic reached the semis here without dropping a set and has climbed to a career-high number 10 in the rankings.
He is sure to rise further if he can dispatch Murray.
''Murray again,'' said Djokovic. ''Everyone is comparing me and Andy because we came all the way together since we were 12.
''I'm expecting a really good match...two young players it is always nice.
''I think it's a great thing for tennis to see Rafael Nadal, Murray and myself playing so well and bringing something new to tennis.'' REUTERS AD BST0134
