Djokovic moves into semis at Aussie Open

By Staff

Melbourne, Jan 23: Novak Djokovic's dream run at the Australian Open continued, the young Serbian super star demolishing fifth seed David Ferrer in straight sets during their quarter-final match.

The gutsy Spaniard fought back in the third set but was no match for the taller Djokovic's power, losing 6-0, 6-3, 7-5.
Djokovic, who has not dropped a single set at this year's tournament, displayed a businesslike approach in the first set racing to victory in just 23 minutes. A shell-shocked Ferrer settled in the second set, found some rhythm and began to challenge Djokovic with his service games.
As Djokovic tinkered on the edge of victory at 5-3 in the third set, a stubborn Ferrer took the world No. 3 to deuce seven times and held his serve.
In the tenth game, Ferrer dug deep and broke the serve of a tiring Djokovic to level the set 5-5.

But a string of unforced errors by the Spaniard allowed Djokovic to get back on top.
Again forced to fight for every point, an increasingly frustrated Djokovic slammed home a 209 km/h ace to again nudge victory as Ferrer's efforts to penetrate his opponent's all-round game ultimately fell short.

Djokovic has now won through to his fourth consecutive grand slam semi-final, and has cemented his place as one of the world's greatest players.
But the 20-year-old is likely to face his toughest test on Friday, his next opponent to be decided during tonight's quarter-final between Roger Federer and American James Blake.
