Djokovic's Olympic Gold Elevates Him Above Tennis Legends

Novak Djokovic's victory at the Paris Olympics has distinguished him from tennis legends like Federer and Nadal. His win adds a historic milestone to his career, setting him apart as he prepares for the US Open.

John McEnroe asserts that Novak Djokovic's victory at the Paris Olympics has set him apart from Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. Djokovic, who clinched gold against Carlos Alcaraz, is now gearing up for the US Open, aiming for his 25th grand slam title at Flushing Meadows.

The Serbian's triumph at Roland-Garros made him only the second player in the Open Era to win all four grand slams, an Olympic gold medal, and the ATP Tour Finals, joining Andre Agassi. Additionally, he became the oldest player to win a gold medal in either men's or women's singles since tennis was reinstated as an Olympic sport in 1988.

Djokovic Surpasses Tennis Greats

Throughout his illustrious career, Djokovic has secured three US Open titles. His most recent grand slam victory came in 2023 when he defeated Daniil Medvedev. This win allowed him to surpass Nadal by two titles and extend his lead over the retired Federer by four.

McEnroe, who recently practiced with Djokovic against Alcaraz and Agassi, believes that Djokovic has already established himself as the greatest of all time. "He's looking to sort of separate himself from Federer and Nadal," McEnroe said. "He seems to have already done that in a way. He's won the Olympics, won everything, won more than those guys."

The trio of Djokovic, Federer, and Nadal dominated men's tennis for two decades. However, Djokovic is currently the last of them still competing at this level. His achievements have led many to consider him the greatest player of all time.

"To me, you'd have to ask him," McEnroe added about Djokovic's future success. "But it (more success) is gravy. He sort of put himself there already."

Djokovic's recent accomplishments have solidified his place in tennis history. As he prepares for the upcoming US Open, fans eagerly await to see if he can add another grand slam title to his impressive record.
