Double gold for Delhi in Tennis

Guwahati, Feb 15 (UNI) Delhi once again proved their supremacy in tennis wining both men's and women's team titles at the 33rd National games here today.

The men's final was a repeat of the previous summit clash as Delhi blanked Tamil Nadu 2-0 to retain the Gold they had won in Hyderabad in 2002.

In the women's team event also, the score line was same only the opponent was different. The West Bengal eves proved no match as the Delhi girls secured the top spot on the podium.

Divij Sharan, the tournment's top ranked player, played a solid game to chalk out a 6-3 7-6 (7-3) against the seasoned Kamala Kannan in the second singles of the men's team final at the Chanchal tennis complex.

The match had been suspended last evening by the rains but Divij, up 2-1 when play resumed, showed no lapse in focus or form to wrap it up in an hour and 55 minutes.

Yesterday, Navdeep Singh put Delhi ahead by getting the better of V M Ranjith in the first singles 6-4 7-5. The two losing semi-finalists Maharashtra and West Bengal bagged the Bronze.

In the women's Gold medal fight, Delhi's Vishika Chetry scripted a convincing 6-4 6-2 win over Shivika Burman before Parul Goswami humbled Ragini Vimal with an identical score line in the second singles.

Maharashtra and Karnataka took the Bronze medals.
