DSCL Open National Tennis deferred by a year

By Staff

New Delhi, Sep 2 (UNI) Paucity of courts due to the ongoing recontruction of R K Khanna stadium has forced the organisers to defer the 17th DSCL Open National Tennis Championship to next year.

It has been decided to postpone the championship this year and hold it next year. New dates will be announced as soon as the same are finalised in consultation with the All India Tennis Association (AITA) and Delhi Lawn Tennis Association (DLTA), the organisers said in a release.

This year, the entire DLTA complex is under going a major re-construction programme in preparation of the Commonwealth Games.

According to the release, the extensive on going civil work would reduce the number of courts available for the tournament.

The movement of people would get restricted and could be unsafe for larger crowds.

With this in view, after careful consideration, including that of seeking alternate venue for the tournament, reducing categories and qualifying draws, DSCL is constrained to defer the 17th DSCL Open National Tennis Championship to next year, it added.
