By MyKhel Staff

British tennis star Emma Raducanu has surged up the WTA rankings following her impressive run to the semi-finals of the Nottingham Open last week.

The 21-year-old Brit, who burst onto the scene with her 2021 US Open victory at just 18, had been struggling with injuries and entered the Nottingham tournament ranked 209th in the world. Her recent performance has catapulted her 44 places to No. 165 in the WTA rankings.

Emma Raducanu Boosts Her WTA Ranking by 44 Places

Raducanu's journey in Nottingham was marked by resilience and a bit of luck. She advanced to the semi-finals after her quarter-final opponent, Francesca Jones, withdrew due to a shoulder injury. In the semi-finals, Raducanu fought hard but ultimately fell to eventual champion Katie Boulter in a three-set battle, losing 6-7, 6-3, 6-4.

Despite missing out on a place in the final, Raducanu's performance has had a significant impact on her ranking. With Wimbledon and the US Open still ahead this year, Raducanu has ample opportunities to climb further up the rankings. She has decided to skip the Paris Olympics, to focus on her Wimbledon preparations.

The Nottingham Open was part of the Hologic WTA Tour's grass-court swing, which also saw events in 's-Hertogenbosch, where Liudmila Samsonova and Katie Boulter claimed the titles. The tour has been a platform for several comeback players, including former US Open champions Bianca Andreescu and Naomi Osaka.

Bianca Andreescu, the 2019 US Open champion, reached her seventh career final in 's-Hertogenbosch but lost to Samsonova in a thrilling three-set match. Andreescu, who had been sidelined for nine months due to a stress fracture in her back, showed remarkable resilience in her comeback. She has now moved up 65 places to No. 163 in the latest WTA rankings.

Naomi Osaka also made a notable return, reaching the quarterfinals in 's-Hertogenbosch. Despite a narrow loss to Andreescu in a third-set tiebreak, Osaka climbed 12 places to No. 113 in the rankings. Other players also made significant strides in the rankings. Karolina Pliskova, a former World No. 1, moved up eight places to No. 42 after reaching the final in Nottingham. Diane Parry rose 11 places to No. 53, and Dalma Galfi climbed 18 places to No. 120 after their performances in Nottingham and 's-Hertogenbosch, respectively.

The recent rankings update highlights the dynamic nature of women's tennis, with several players making comebacks and others reaching new career highs. Emma Raducanu's resurgence is particularly noteworthy, and fans will be keen to see how she performs in the upcoming Grand Slam tournaments. As Raducanu continues her recovery and return to form, the future looks promising for the young British star.
