Federer beats Soderling, enters US Open semifinals
New York, Sep 4: Amid the winds from the northeast second seeded Swiss ace, Roger Federer sailed majestically into his seventh straight US Open semi-final after claiming revenge for his French Open fall against Robin Soderling.
29-year-old Federer thrashed fifth seed Soderling 6-4 6-4 7-5 in the US Open quarterfinals at the windswept Arthur Ashe Stadium.
With this victory at the Flushing Meadows, Federer has levelled the scores, so to speak, with Sweden's Soderling, who earlier this year ended the his run of 23 consecutive Grand Slam semi-finals by defeating him in the French Open quarterfinals.
