Federer makes a shocking exit from Wimbledon 2010

By Samyuktha

Wimbledon, Jul 1: Alongside the shock-riddled FIFA World Cup 2010, Wimbledon 2010 also threw up a massive shocker when Roger Federer made an appalling exit from the men's quarterfinals of the Grass court event.

Tomas Berdych of Czech Republic defeated the defending champion 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 on Wednesday, Jun 30. The 12th-seeded Berdych managed to dish out a brilliant performance using his serves and in forehands to oust the six-time champion and to claim the biggest win of his career.

With this, Federer's campaign to reclaim the title for the seventh time comes to a shattering end. Federer had lost in the first round eight years ago. But after that he had never failed to walk majestically into the court for the final bout at the Wimbledon since 2002.

The Swiss ace's defeat in Wimbledon is yet another disappointment following the unsatisfying performances he has put up over the recent times.

Berdych will take on world number three Novak Djokovic in the semis to grab a place for himself in the finals. In another semi-final tie, the fiery Spaniard Rafael Nadal will be clashing against number four Andy Murray.
