Former Tennis player Ghulam Ghouse passes away

Hyderabad, Dec 1: Ghulam Ghouse, grandfather of Mustafa Ghouse former national tennis champion, passed away here on Thursday.

He was 83.

He is survived by his four sons, Ghulam Mohammed, Irshad, Adil and Ilyas who played tennis at the national and international level. His daughter Rana was a keen table tennis player.

A former national tennis player himself, he was a keen promoter of tennis and an ex Vice President of the Maharashtra Lawn Tennis Association.

As Honorary Secretary, Tennis of the Cricket Club of India he helped bring big time tennis to India when greats like Tony Roche, Illie Nastase, Alex Metreveli, Ian Tiriac and Jan Kodes came to play the tournament.

Ghulam Ghouse was an illustrious banker, a senior member of the Reserve Bank of India, Managing Director of the Agricultural Finance Corporation, Chairman - FAO Bankers Program-Rome and Chairman - Bombay Mercantile Bank, besides being on many other Boards.
