French Open 2023: India's challenge ends as Yuki Bhambri and Saketh Myneni lose round 2 men's doubles match

French Open 2023: The Indian pair of Yuki Bhambri and Saketh Myneni crashed out of the French Open 2023 by losing their second round men's doubles match 4-6, 5-7 to ninth seeds Edouard Roger-Vasselin of France and Santiago Gonzalez of Mexico.

The match which lasted one hour and 38 minutes saw Bhambri and Myneni dominate the first game and break their higher-ranked opponents in the second. However, they were broken twice in return by Edouard Roger-Vasselin and Santiago Gonzalez, who went on to take a crucial1-0 lead.

Roger-Vasselin and Gonzalez capitalised on the momentum in the second set but Bhambri and Myneni broke the French-Mexican combo again to level the score 5-5. But the opponents held on their nerves and won the next two games to send the Indian pair packing. The pair got The Indian pair got USD 29,062 (Rs 24 lacs approx.) for their efforts.

In the first round, Yuki Bhambri and Saketh Myneni, who are ranked 74th and 75th respectively in the ATP doubles rankings, had defeated the local wildcard pairing of Arthur Rinderknech and Enzo Couacaud 6-3, 6-2.

The defeat ended India's challenge at Roland Garros 2023. On Wednesday, the Indo-Australian pair of Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden, as well as the Indian duo of N Sriram Balaji and Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan, were eliminated in the first round.

Ankita Raina, the only Indian player to compete in the singles category, was eliminated in the qualifying rounds. She is ranked 215 in the WTA singles rankings.
