French Open 2024: Novak Djokovic withdraws from Roland Garros, Janik Sinner becomes No. 1

Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from the ongoing French Open with an injury, as it was confirmed on Tuesday (June 4).

As per the confirmation, Djokovic has withdrawn from the tournament after sustaining a right knee injury. The 37-year-old suffered the injury on his right knee recently and that has made a telling blow to his run in the clay court competition.

Djokovic was set to take on Casper Ruud in the quarter-finals but he will now relinquish the contest as Ruud is set to advance to the semifinal.

Why has Novak Djokovic withdrawn from the French Open?

Djokovic reportedly underwent an MRI which revealed a tear in his right meniscus muscle, forcing the defending champion of the French Open to withdraw. He also lost 1600 ATP Points after his withdrawal, which has dethroned him from the summit position in the rankings.

With the departure of Djokovic from the tournament, Italian tennis star Janik Sinner has become the new no. 1 ranked male Tennis player.
