French Open: Leander Paes through to 2nd round

By Sreekumar
Paris, Jun 1: Indian tennis player Leander Paes has entered the second round of the men's doubles competition at the French Open here.

Facing the Italian duo of Simone Bolelli and Fabio Fognini, Paes and his Austrian partner Alexander Peya breezed through the first set but lost the second after it went to the tiebreak.

However, Paes and Peya regrouped well to clinch the third set and with it the match 6-1, 6-7, 6-3. The seventh seeds will next face Russia's Mikhail Elgin and Uzbekistan's Denis Istomin who defeated Steve Darcis of Belarus and Olivier Rochus of Belgium 3-6, 6-3, 7-6.

Since Elgin and Istomin are not among the seeds, Paes and Peya are favourites to reach the third round.
