The only positive thing about David Goffin's life after a freak eye injury is having his partner as a personal driver, the Belgian joked.

Marseille, February 20: David Goffin expects to make a speedy recovery from a nasty eye injury and joked the only good thing about the situation is that his girlfriend is his personal driver.

The world number seven was forced to withdraw from his Rotterdam Open semi-final against Grigor Dimitrov on Saturday (February 17) after an attempted backhand volley at the net saw the ball deflect off the frame of his racquet and straight into his face.

Goffin was in immediate discomfort and could not play out the rest of the match, leading to his consequent withdrawal at the Open 13 Marseille this week.

However, the Belgian – who is now next scheduled to play the Masters 1000 event in Indian Wells, starting March 8 – was in good spirits when delivering an update on Instagram, even if he is not too happy about his current driving arrangements.

A post that accompanied a picture of Goffin and his partner, read: "Hello everyone! Thank you all for your kind messages...My eye is recovering well and doctors are really positive for my fast recovery.

"I am very disappointed not to be able to play at the @open13marseille and I hope to be back soon on court!

"The only good thing about this bad situation is that I have my personal driver."
