Gojowczyk wins ITF men's futures event

By Staff

New Delhi, Sep 13 (UNI) Top seed Peter Gojowczyk overpowered Aqeel Khan of Pakistan in staright sets to claim his second successive title at the 15,000 dollar ITF event here at the R K Khanna stadium here today.

The German survived a second set fight back from Aqeel to defeat his Pakistani rival 6-1, 7-6(1) in the hard court event.

Gojowczyk had also won the clay court ITF event in Chennai last week.

It was an easy first set for the German as he tamed Aqeel 6-1 but the Pakistani battled his way into the second set. Gojowczyk, however, denied Aqeel an opportunity to level the match and won the second set 7-6 after a tough fight.

Earlier yesterday, India's Prajnesh Gunneswaran reached the semifinals where he lost to Aqeel.

Top seeded Indian duo of Ashutosh Singh and Sunil Kumar Sipaeya thumped compatriots Vishnu Vardhan and Divij Sharan 6-2, 6-2 to win the men's double title yesterday.
